Doctor Who Magazine have sent DWO the cover and details for Issue 483 of DWM.

Paul Wilmshurst, director of the recent Doctor Who episodes Kill the MoonMummy on the Orient Express and Last Christmas, explains the challenges of working on the series, in his first major interview....

I think the old joke is true: how complicated can you make it to hold a child's attention, and how simple can you make it for adults? Can you make it scary enough for the children to be satisfied, but not too scary for the adults to be worried?"

Check out the new Doctor Who parody from former journalist and long-time Whovian Darren M Bane.

Dr U Who, available as both a paperback and ebook, is the ‘true’ story – or at least, one timeline’s version of it – of Doctor Who’s triumphant return to prime time television, and subsequent world domination. It reveals the ‘real’ reason behind the BBC’s historic decision to bring Doctor Who back from Hiatus, and put an end to those long wilderness years.

Inspired by the Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, this affectionate parody provides ‘definitive’ answers to a number of questions raised by the long-running series over the years, including the “real” reason why so many alien races speak English; the truth behind the ‘missing episodes’; the real cause of the dinosaurs becoming extinct (the cyber ship with Adric on board merely scratched the surface), the unfortunate typo which prevented the tenth Doctor from properly heeding a warning which could have prolonged his life, the reason why anti-matter is called anti-matter, why sci-fi fans are sometimes called anoraks - and plenty more. Just remember, when Cap’n Jack The Lad Harmless is about, then, whatever you do, don’t wink.

Dr U Who was originally published, briefly, exclusively on Kindle until the author discovered www.lulu.com, and the means to make it available as a paperback and on a wide range of ebook sellers, without breaking the bank.

But during that initial brief time on Kindle, it was downloaded 203 times, and attracted six reviews, two of which were five-star,  three were four-star and one was three-star.

Comments from reviewers included: “Well written, affectionate, Dr Who parody. The author has a nice way with words, making this an easy read, with plenty of giggles”, “a right reveting read, clearly written by a true fan of Dr Who”, “his love for, and knowledge of, the franchise shines through in an affectionate parody,” and “the best Doctor Who parody, great satire humour.”

Darren M Bane is a middle-aged kid whose earliest memory of Doctor Who was watching Jon Pertwee in hand-to-hand combat with a Sontaran in The Time Warrior; and he’s been in love with the show ever since. While working as a journalist, he reported on, and then became a member of the crew of, a low-budget fan-made film, Soul’s Ark, which starred Colin Baker, Wendy Padbury and Carole Ann Ford.

Dr U Who is available as a paperback from www.lulu.com, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones and others, for £7.99.

It’s available as an ebook from www.lulu.com from 99p, and should soon be available through all the major ebook retailers including Nook, Kobo, Kindle and the iBookstore.

For more information about the author, and other books he has written and is planning to, visit his website at www.dazzab.co.uk.

As a Doctor Who fan, Mark Speed always wondered about the Doctor’s family. Did he have siblings or cousins? Having grown up with the series since he was a toddler (hiding behind the sofa from Patrick Troughton's enemies), he has struggled with the inconsistencies caused by fifty years of different scriptwriters.

Once he started asking questions Mark realised there might be an interesting explanation: an alternative or parallel Whoniverse. How is Who’s younger twin, and he’s been struggling since his brother’s TV debut in 1963.

Doctor How And The Illegal Aliens is one fan’s loving and light-hearted tribute to the greatest series in TV history, and is free on Kindle from October 10-12.

Our friends over at The Film Cell have put together some fantastic Christmas present ideas for you Whovians out there. They have come up with a couple of fantastic Doctor Who gift hampers pulling together some fantastic merchandise and memorabilia into nicely finished parcels that you won't event have to wrap. At the moment they have two styles but they have told us that there will be more to come between now and Christmas so keep checking there website and Facebook pages for all the latest info.

Firstly they have the 11th Doctor Hamper which features Doctor Who collectables themed around Matt Smith's character. The hamper includes an 11th Doctor dressing gown to help you wined down after a busy week at work. A Matt Smith 3D mug that you can take into the office, a Sonic Screwdriver pizza cutter (you know what to do with this, it even makes the SFX when slicing through pizza, how cool) and a Ceramic Tardis money box to save up for your next piece of memorabilia. All this for the fantastic price of just £69.99, I know I'd be happy to wake up with one of these under my tree on Christmas morning.
But that's not it, if you are a fan of the older Doctor Who series or Matt Smith isn't your favourite Doctor then take a look at this next hamper they have on offer. They are calling this their Doctor Who Night In Gift Hamper. This has everything you need for a night in watching your favourite Doctor Who episode or catching the latest series on TV every Saturday night.
First up you will get a Tardis onesie ideal for relaxing on the sofa, while you are sitting down chilling you are going to need some nibbles. That's where the ceramic Tardis cookie jar comes in handy. But you don't have to use this just for your favourite biscuits, why not fill it with popcorn, sweet or any other snacks. As it's a Tardis you will be able to cram in more than you would think, it's much bigger on the inside... The package also includes a very useful Sonic Screwdriver bottle opener, so you have your beverage sorted you just need something to drink it out of. That's right, you can use the 3D figural mug that also comes in the hamper, the character mug is chosen at random but you can ask for a set character when placing the order. Doctor Who Online is pleased to announce the publication of Will Brooks’ 50 Year Diary: Volume Two 1970-1981.

In celebration of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary, Will Brooks sits down to watch every episode of the programme made between 1963 - 2013 at the strict pace of one per day.

Having watched each episode, Will records his thoughts in a daily blog for Doctor Who Online, and scores the episode out of ten, on a scale ranging from ‘Perfect, the absolute pinnacle’ to ‘Why am I doing this again?’

Will Brooks’ 50 Year Diary: 1970 - 1981 collects together more than 300 entries of the popular blog, covering the complete eras of the Third and Fourth Doctors (Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker), as well as a revisit to the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) stories The Enemy of the World and The Web of Fear, episodes of which were returned to the BBC's archive in 2013, having been missing for many decades.

Speaking about the publication of the book, Will told DWO:

“The 1970s was the part of The 50 Year Diary that I was dreading the most. I'd always thought of Jon Pertwee as being my least favourite of all the Doctors, and while I knew Tom Baker was very good, I'd never quite understood the sheer love for that era of the programme.

Having now had the chance to watch through, I've realised that there's a lot to Pertwee's Doctor that I can enjoy, and the reason that the Baker era is considered to be such a Golden Age is because, in many ways, it is! I've found things to enjoy at almost every turn, although not everything was to my tastes...”

The book is released on September 25th 2014.

+  You can pre-order the paperback version of Will Brooks’ 50 Year Diary 1970 - 1981 now from Pageturner Publishing for £14.99.

+  The book is also available for Kindle, and can be pre-ordered from Amazon UK and US.
