Peter Capaldi was on hand to accept a Guinness World Record for the 'Largest Gathering Of People Dressed as Doctor Who Characters' at La Mole Comic Con in Mexico City last Saturday.

During the day a total of 492 fans donned their costumes to help scoop the record, which saw outfits varying from Doctors to Companions, Monsters and even objects like the TARDIS!

Doctor Who currently holds a world record for the Longest Running Science Fiction Series, but the 2016 edition of the 'Guinness World Records 2016 Blockbusters' book sees other Doctor Who related records for: Most Popular Doctor Who Story (The Caves Of Androzani), Most Expensive Dalek (£36,000) and Largest Collection of Doctor Who Memorabilia (2,012 items of merchandise belonging to Ian O 'Brien).

Doctor Who Showrunner, Steven Moffat has collected his OBE at yesterday's investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Moffat received his award for 'services to drama', from the Prince Of Wales and said about the honour:

"It was very thrilling and formal and slightly, slightly, just very slightly, like being back at school. But nicer because everyone got a prize. Talking to other people before I came in, I kind of feel everyone's here for a better reason than me. I've got not one, but two dream jobs so to get this lovely thing for already indulging myself in public, seems like an excess of good fortune."

Last night, ITV played host to the annual National Television Awards, and whilst Doctor Who failed to scoop up any awards, David Tennant (The 10th Doctor), picked up the coveted 'Special Recognition' Award.

Tennant, who was sat in the audience with his wife (and Doctor Who actress) Georgia Moffett, seemed genuinely shocked and surprised to have won the award.

Last night saw the winner's announced at the 2014 GQ Man Of The Year Awards, and Peter Capaldi came out with the TV Personality Of The Year award.

On winning the award, Capaldi said:

"I've been very lucky because in the past I've received awards for my acting. This is the first I've received for my personality, which I assume means they've never met me. The reason I've got this award is because I got the chance to play the roll of a lifetime twice. Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It. And I also got to play Doctor Who. The real people who know the personality of the year are my family - my mother and my sister and my wife who have put with my personality and endured it to the point that I can get this ".

Doctor Who and Mark Gatiss' An Adventure In Space And Time have both received nominations in the 2014 BAFTA's.

Doctor Who was recognised in the Audience category with the nomination for The Day Of The Doctor. It features competition from Breaking Bad, Gogglebox, The Great British Bakeoff, Broadchurch and Educating Yorkshire.

An Adventure In Space and Time was recognised in the Best Single Drama category, featuring competition from Complicit, The Wipers Times & Black Mirror: Be Right Back.

Fans can cast their vote for the Audience award on the Radio Times website.

Doctor Who: Dark Eyes, which stars Paul McGann as The Doctor and Ruth Bradley as his new companion Molly, has won Best Online or Non-Broadcast Drama at the 2014 BBC Audio Drama Awards.

The ceremony took place on Sunday, and the award was collected by Nicholas Briggs (writer, director, executive producer and voice of the Daleks), Jason Haigh-Ellery (executive producer) and David Richardson (producer).

Commenting on the win, Doctor Who executive producer Steven Moffat says:

"I am completely thrilled, I am air-punching. In the wilderness years, when Doctor Who was off the air, Big Finish did so much to keep the legend alive in the hearts and minds of the fans. Now, in this time of Who abundance, it is beyond exciting to see their excellent work recognised. Hopefully this award will bring the Big Finish audios to the attention of an even wider public. Recently, on TV, we saw how the Paul McGann Doctor died - now it's time to find out he lived."

Nicholas Briggs says:

"I'm really delighted. It's so lovely to receive such recognition. And the congratulations we've received from our listeners, people at the BBC and Russell T Davies *and* Steve Moffat make it doubly rewarding."

Doctor Who and Matt Smith both won awards for the categories they were nominated in at this years National Television Awards.

Doctor Who won the award for Drama, beating off competition from Downton Abbey, Broadchurch and Call The Midwife.

Matt Smith won the award for Drama Performance, beating off competition from Martin Clunes (Doc Martin), Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey) and Miranda Hart (Call The Midwife).

Smith couldn't attend in person to accept the award, with Steven Moffat and Jenna Coleman accepting it on his behalf. Matt recorded a thank you video, which you can view below:

Doctor Who has picked up two awards at this years TV Choice Awards, held at London's Dorchester Hotel.

The first award of the evening for the show was in the Best Drama category, where it beat off competition from Downton Abbey, Waterloo Road and Call The Midwife. 

The second award was for Outstanding Contribution, with Steven Moffat, David Tennant and Peter Davison taking to the stage to accept the award for Doctor Who, with Matt Smith appearing via a specially recorded video message.

On accepting the award, Steven Moffat said:

“I’m receiving an award about Doctor Who from Doctor Who while Doctor Who is busy filming in Cardiff.”

Matt Smith lost out on the Best Actor award, with ex-Doctor, David Tennant winning for his role in Broadchurch.

Jenna Coleman lost out on the Best Actress award, with Miranda Hart winning for her role in Call The Midwife.

The winners of the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2013 were announced at a special event hosted by actor David Tennant in the Radio Theatre at BBC Broadcasting House.

The awards are a celebration of audio drama, on air and online, and are about giving recognition to the actors, writers, producers, sound designers, and others who work in the genre.

Speaking at the awards, Tennant had the following to say:

"The quality of our radio drama is one of the things that makes me proud to be British. Acting on the radio is challenging, inspiring, delicate and always a privilege. Radio drama is often overlooked and undervalued next to its showier younger siblings on the television and in the cinema, and yet it is on the wireless that so many important and brilliant talents have been discovered and nurtured. I am delighted radio drama is being celebrated in this way."

The Doctor Who related winners of the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2013 were:

Doctor Who failed to win any of the categories it was nominated in at this years National Television Awards.

Doctor Who was nominated in the Drama category, but lost out to Downton Abbey.

Matt Smith was nominated in the Drama Performance: Male category, but lost out to Melin star, Colin Morgan.

Karen Gillan was nominated in the Drama Performance: Female category, but lost out to Call the Midwife star, Miranda Hart.

Doctor Who wasn't totally ignored though, as I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here - (featuring Colin Baker - The 6th Doctor) - won the Entertainment Programme category.

This marks the second year in a row since the show's return in 2005 where Doctor Who has failed to pick up any awards at the NTAs. On a more positive note though, how many shows featured at this years awards will ever claim to celebrate a 50th Anniversary :)

Doctor Who has scooped up a 2012 Hugo award for 6.4: The Doctor's Wife.

The episode was nominated and won the 'Best Dramatic Presentation: Short Form' category for the Series 6 episode, written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Richard Clark.

According to reports, during his acceptance speech for the Hugo Award, Neil Gaiman confirmed he is writing another Doctor Who script stating:

"Only a fool or a mad man would try to do it again...so I'm on the third draft."

It is still unclear whether this will form part of the second half of Series 7 or a later set of episodes.

Also picking up an award in the 'Best Fancast' category was Doctor Who Writer and Author, Paul Cornell for the SF Squeecast.

The 2012 Hugo Awards were presented at Chicon 7; the 70th World Science Fiction Convention, and was held at Chicago's Hyatt Regency.

The 2012 DWO Awards are now open for nominations in 13 different Doctor Who related categories.

We all like a good poll, right? Especially if it is connected to our favourite show; Doctor Who. That's why DWO have decided to launch our own annual awards covering all aspects of Doctor Who; incorporating Merchandise, TV Episodes and Fandom.

We are particularly keen on the addition of the Fandom category as it is often overlooked by many of the more 'official' polls, and it is our belief that fandom can provide some of the most creative offerings out there.

The awards are run in conjunction with the DWO Forum Community, which anyone can join for FREE, and will begin with nominations from fans in the categories. The top 10 selections in each category will then make a shortlist in which fans can vote online for their favourites.

Doctor Who Showrunner and Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat is to receive a special prize at this year's BAFTA TV awards, organisers have announced.

Recognising his "outstanding creative writing contribution to television", the award will be presented on 27 May at London's Royal Festival Hall.

Previous recipients include Russell T. Davies, who preceded the 50-year-old Scot as Doctor Who's head writer.

"Blimey! A special award!" said Moffat, "I didn't even know I was ill."

The accolade follows the writing prize he received at last Sunday's BAFTA Craft Awards for A Scandal in Belgravia, the first episode of Sherlock's second series.

The Paisley native won his first Bafta in 1991 for Press Gang and was further recognised for his work on Doctor Who and Sherlock in 2008 and 2011 respectively. Moffat said he was "so thrilled" to be recognised again, "especially after two years of [working on] my two favourite shows ever".

Bafta chair Tim Corrie described him as "one of the finest exponents of his craft" and said the special award - presented in honour of Dennis Potter - was "very well deserved".

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch is up for the best actor prize at this year's awards, which will also see his co-stars Martin Freeman and Andrew Scott go head to head in the supporting actor category.

Former Doctor Who star David Tennant has been named best actor at the inaugural BBC Audio Drama Awards.

The awards, which were also hosted by Tennant, aim "to celebrate and recognise the cultural importance of audio drama, on air and online". Tennant won for his role as Kafka in Kafka: The Musical. Rosie Cavaliero was named best actress as Ruthie, in Lost Property: A Telegram from the Queen.

The best use of sound award went to Doctor Who Director, Julian Simpson's Bad Memories.

Tim Davie, director, BBC Audio & Music, said he hoped the awards would bring "wider recognition of the many talented people who work in the genre".

Matt Smith (The 11th Doctor) and Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) have both scooped up an award at this year's National Television Awards.

Matt won in the Best Drama Performance - Male category, and Karen won in the Best Drama Performance - Female category. Doctor Who failed to pick up the award for Best Drama, losing out to ITV1's Downton Abbey.

There was some mild controversy backstage as Matt Smith was quoted talking to the Radio Times as saying "I've got a year of Who left", but later amended the statement, speaking to the BBC Entertainment News team stating he has "no plans to leave [Doctor Who]", and that he has "No idea who the next companion will be".

Sherlock won the best Drama Series award, beating Being Human, Downton Abbey and Misfits. Martin Freeman also won under the Sherlock banner for best Supporting Actor.

Matt Smith sadly missed out on winning the Leading Actor award for his role as The Doctor in Doctor Who. Smith lost out to Daniel Rigby for his role in Eric and Ernie. Smith, however, is commended for being the first Doctor Who actor to be nominated for a BAFTA.

First up is the show proper, where Doctor Who is nominated in the Best Drama Series category, along with The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Doctor Who star, Matt Smith has been nominated as Best Actor in this years BAFTA Awards for his role in Doctor Who.

It is to be noted that this is the first time an actor who has played The Doctor, has ever been nominated in the role, and will be going head-to-head with Sherlock star, Benedict Cumberbatch.

Doctor Who spin off show, The Sarah Jane Adventures has scooped an award at this year's Royal Television Society Awards.

The show picked up the award in the Children's Drama category. Also winning at the awards was Steven Moffat, who picked up the Judge's Award.

Doctor Who failed to win the Best Drama & Best Drama Performance categories at this years National Television Awards.

The Best Drama award, which the show has won for the past 5 consecutive years, instead went to Waterloo Road, in a shock twist that even the bookies couldn't predict.

Even the Best Drama Performance category failed to snag the show an award for Matt Smith, who lost out to David Jason.

Clearly this is a shock for fellow fans, especially as the show has ranked so highly at the awards in previous years.

There was, however, solace in the form of a 3-minute Doctor Who sequence at the be ginning of the show, which featured Matt Smith and Dermot O'Leary. A search on YouTube for 'NTA Doctor Who 2011' will bring up the video.

Regardless of the outcome, it is DWO's opinion that Series Five was one of the finest for Doctor Who to date, with excellent writing, a fantastic cast, and a painstakingly hard working production team to boot. Chins up guys and gals - you were robbed!

The nominations were voted for by the public and the winners announced live on television earlier this evening.
