Event: Vworp - An Independent Celebration Of Doctor Who - [9/9/2018]

A new dawn for Doctor Who events in the UK has arrived, as Manchester based ‘Vworp’ launches their first event with a bang at the Printworks on 9th September 2018, with a line up of signings, panels and activities that will please fans of all ages.

Photo opportunities with full size police boxes, Daleks, Cybermen and a host of other monsters, lurking throughout the venue, and with a number of dealers for you to track down that elusive action figure or sonic spatula (it’s a thing - trust us) you’ll have to hope that your bag is bigger on the inside.

In addition to all the Doctor Who fun, a lot of the venues within the Printworks will be offering deals across the weekend on food and drink so you won’t even have to leave the event space.

There will be a full slate of panels and talks across three stages and signings with Doctors, Companions and Monsters.

Event: Geekinomicon - [Oklahoma - 2nd-24th September 2016]

Geekinomicon, Oklahoma’s largest Comic Con, hosted at Oklahoma City’s Cox Convention Center on September 2­4th this year, is the official 20th anniversary celebration of “Doctor Who: The Movie”. Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, Daphne Ashbrook, Eric Roberts, Yee Jee Tso, Jeremy Radick, and Eliza Roberts will be attending the convention and providing photo­ops, autographs, and live screenings of the movie with cast commentary.

Doctor Who Sets World Record For Fans Dressed as Doctor Who Characters

Peter Capaldi was on hand to accept a Guinness World Record for the 'Largest Gathering Of People Dressed as Doctor Who Characters' at La Mole Comic Con in Mexico City last Saturday.

During the day a total of 492 fans donned their costumes to help scoop the record, which saw outfits varying from Doctors to Companions, Monsters and even objects like the TARDIS!

Doctor Who currently holds a world record for the Longest Running Science Fiction Series, but the 2016 edition of the 'Guinness World Records 2016 Blockbusters' book sees other Doctor Who related records for: Most Popular Doctor Who Story (The Caves Of Androzani), Most Expensive Dalek (£36,000) and Largest Collection of Doctor Who Memorabilia (2,012 items of merchandise belonging to Ian O 'Brien).

San Diego Comic Con 2015 - Doctor Who Schedule

The schedules for the San Diego Comic Con 2015 panels have now been revealed, with Doctor Who featuring this Thursday.

Thursday 9th July:

Peter Davison And Classic Series Cast Members Added To 50th Celebration Line-Up

With the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who now less than a month away, BBC Worldwide is delighted to announce that over 40 additional guests from the classic era of Doctor Who have been added to the bill for the Doctor Who 50th Celebration which takes place at ExCeL London over the anniversary weekend.

They will join current Doctor Matt Smith and former Doctors Tom Baker, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy at the ultimate anniversary event, which will welcome over 20,000 fans of the world’s favourite Time Lord to the venue in east London.

First on the list of new names is Peter Davison, who played the role of the fifth Doctor from 1981-1984. Joining Peter at the event over the anniversary weekend will be cast from throughout the 50 year history of the show including the Director of An Unearthly Child (the first episode of Doctor Who), Waris Hussein. William Russell and Carole Ann Ford, who starred as companions Ian and Susan alongside the first Doctor - William Hartnell – will be attending on Saturday 23 November. 

Dick Mills (BBC Radiophonic Workshop), Mike Tucker and Mat Irvine (Classic Era Visual Effects) will also be on hand to facilitate some of the special features at the Celebration, which will be announced in more detail soon.

The Doctor Who 50th Celebration’s opening hours will also be extended on Saturday evening so visitors can enjoy a free 2D simulcast screening of The Day Of The Doctor together. Saturday attendees will be emailed shortly with details about how they can reserve a seat. Visitors should note that the screening will have limited availability and tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Ian McNeice Responds To Churchill Return Rumours

Earlier today, the internet was rife with rumours that Ian McNeice would be returning to Doctor Who to reprise his role as Winston Churchill.

The rumours were sparked after Ian was misquoted at today's 50th Anniversary Convention at The Ritz Cinema in Lincoln, where The Ritz Cinema's own Twitter feed tweeted:

"Ooooo spoilers.... Winston Churchill to return to Doctor Who"

DWO has since spoken directly to Ian McNeice himself, who had the following message for fans:

"I am not doing a new Doctor Who at present, but would be thrilled to return if asked. K.B.O!"

Karen Gillan Reveals Bald Head At Comic Con

Ex-Doctor Who Companion, Karen Gillan, has stunned fans at this years San Diego Comic Con by unveiling her bald head, after shaving off her hair for a new film role.

Gillan (who still looks just as gorgeous without hair as she does with hair) appeared at Comic Con on Friday sporting her trademark red hair, which, on Saturday, she admitted was in fact a wig!

Karen unveiled the new look at the Marvel press line for 'Guardians Of The Galaxy', in which she plays the role of villainous pirate, Nebula. The movie is due for release in 2014.

She follows in the footsteps of he ex-Doctor Who co star, Matt Smith, who shaved off his hair for a role in Ryan Gosling's upcoming directorial movie debut in 'How To Catch A Monster'.

Gillan can most recently be seen in Brit comedy movie, 'Not Another Happy Ending' in which she plays struggling author, Jane Lockhart. For more information on the movie, check out the trailer below or visit the website, here.

Event: The Doctor And The TARDIS Trek To Texas For Space City Con

For fans celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, the 20th Anniversary of the Power Rangers, and all things Pop Culture, Houston, Texas is the destination of choice for the summer “Geek Festival”.

Space City Con 2013 includes hundreds of events, 24 hour programming for 3 days, exapnded to two adjoining hotels, with vendors, artists, authors, media guests, gaming & video-gaming, cosplay, a Masquerade competition, a Klingon Makeover for Charity, the Robotech 2013 Convention Tour, and everything for kids of all ages to enjoy.

Sylvester McCoy, beloved for his role as The 7th Doctor, and also for his quirky Radagast the Brown wizard in the international blockbuster, Peter Jackson's “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”, will be joining a gathering of 5 Power Rangers (Jason David Frank, Steve Cardenas, Catherine Sutherland, Blake Foster, and Karan Ashley, a native Texan like JDF).

Also featured at the show is the new unsolicited pilot project, Star Trek: Renegades, with actors Walter Koenig (Chekov), Tim Russ (Tuvok / Director), Manu Intiraymi (Icheb), J.G. Hertzler (Martok), and the stunning Adrienne Wilkinson (Xena's daughter Eve; Star Wars' Maris Brood) as the newest Starfleet Captain, Lexxa Singh.  

Star Trek: Voyager's Robert Picardo will serve as Master of Ceremonies, giving Houston the distinct  and unique honor of hosting “Two Doctors” - two actors whose characters were simply and grandly, “The Doctor”.

Rounding out the line-up from Star Trek and Stargate, is John de Lancie (Q from Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Stargate: Atlantis commander Torri Higginson. This being Babylon 5's 20th Anniversary as well, Jason Carter will appear with Koenig.

Professional photo ops will be available with restored pieces of the Enterprise-D bridge NewStarship.com project, which is traveling to Houston along with the actual working TARDIS console, complete with sounds and lights, from the 1996 Doctor Who movie which starred Sylvester McCoy. This will be an extremely rare opportunity for fans to have special photos taken with the talent and the set pieces.

Steven Moffat Video Interview By Ed Stradling

Doctor Who DVD Producer, Ed Stradling recently conducted a video interview with Steven Moffat for last weekend's Gallifrey One convention in Los Angeles.

The 13-minute interview offers a few insights into the new series, and the 50th Anniversary special, with Steven stating at one point:

"Doctor Who, the 50th is approaching - various different things - a lot of different things. Don't believe the nonsense about one 60-minute film, that is complete nonsense."

Matt Smith Announced for Entertainment Media Show

There have been a handful of last minute guest announcements for the Entertainment Media Show, including the wonderful Matt Smith from Doctor Who!

Our friends at Showmasters have also announced James Cosmo from Game of Thrones, Highlander and Sons of Anarchy, Vaughn Armstrong of Star Trek fame, the great British actor Joss Ackland, and Anime voice artist Vic Mignogna amongst others.

Photo shoot tickets are now available on the online shop, and for Matt Smith they have also added autograph tickets which can be bought now online with tickets exchanged for an in-person autograph on the day.

BBC Worldwide confirmed today that Karen Gillan will be joining her co-stars Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill at The Official Doctor Who Convention taking place on the 24th and 25th March at Cardiff’s Millennium Centre.

The Convention brings the makers of the Doctor Who together for a full day, in-depth event designed to reveal the inner workings of the series. Official Doctor Who Convention

BBC Worldwide today revealed details of the first ever official Doctor Who Convention since the series’ regeneration in 2005. The event will take place on the 24th and 25th March 2012 at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Wales - the current home of the show.  

Billed as the ‘Ultimate Doctor Who Fan Event’, there are just 1500 tickets available for each of the days – the programme is the same on each day to give attendees the most  in depth experience possible. Fans who manage to snap these up will gain unrivalled access to Eleventh Doctor star Matt Smith, Series Lead Writer and Executive Producer Steven Moffat and many more key members from the award-winning cast, crew and production team including Doctor Who Special FX Supervisor Danny Hargreaves, Production Designer Michael Pickwoad, Doctor Who Producer Marcus Wilson and the award-winning Millennium FX team. 

The unique interactive programme will include theatre sessions and Q&As with cast and crew; behind the scenes sessions show-casing the script to screen process; discussions with episode directors and writers and demonstrations from Special FX and prosthetics experts that will illustrate the challenges and scale of their work on the world’s longest running sci-fi show. Autograph and photo opportunities will also be available with attending cast members and there will be official Doctor Who merchandise and collectables on sale.

Convention attendees will be let into the secrets of Doctor Who special effects as Danny Hargreaves and his talented team, reveal the tricks used to create the stunning physical effects that leave audiences on the edge of their seats. Watch them recreate a spectacular battle scene with live pyrotechnics, amazing explosions and laser effects. 

Even more tricks of the trade will be unveiled by the award-winning Millennium FX team responsible for creating some of Doctor Who’s most iconic monsters including the Silence; the Silurians; the Weeping Angels and the Ood. The team will be giving a live demonstration of the skilful process involved in prosthetics application that fans can watch up-close and learn from the team how each stage is achieved. 

Convention attendees will also be able to get up close and personal with rare costumes and props from the show where designers and experts will be on hand to answer questions about the origins and history of the items on show. The Millennium Centre itself has starred in several episodes – it was the setting for a hospital in New Earth in Series 2 run by the cat-like Sisters of Plentitude, in Tom McRae’s episode The Girl Who Waited in Series 6 the building featured as a principle location on Apalapucia – the kindness facility where people were quarantined, see if you can spot the top floor balcony where Amy fought with a Handbot!

Matt Smith commented on the convention’s announcement: “It’s brilliant that the first official convention is being held in Cardiff, the home of Doctor Who. I’m really looking forward to seeing the fans there, and remember – bow ties are cool!”
